Three Rivers Park Commissioner District 1
Marge Beard represents District 1 on the Three Rivers Park District Board of Commissioners. She is a 25-year resident of Plymouth and credits her previous public service on the Plymouth City Council with helping her make informed decisions for our parks. Marge keeps current with issues impacting the cities in her district through regular meetings with northwest suburban mayors and city officials as a member of the Northwest Hennepin League of Municipalities.
Marge’s district includes Corcoran, Greenfield, Hanover, Independence, Long Lake, Maple Plain, Medicine Lake, Medina, Minnetrista, Minnetonka Beach, Mound, New Hope, Orono Precincts 1, 3 & 4, Plymouth, Rockford, Rogers, Spring Park, St. Bonifacius, and Wayzata.
Marge is an outdoor enthusiast
She can often be found walking, biking, camping, skiing and golfing in our Three Rivers Parks. Every year she tries a new outdoor class or program at Three Rivers. In recent years she gathered friends to participate in a raft ride down the Mississippi River, took downhill ski lessons, and participated in “try-it” events for ice fishing and snowshoeing. She enjoys capturing nature and park photographs/videos and sharing them on Instagram and Facebook.
Marge loves being in the peace and quiet of the forest and encountering nature. She gives back to keeping our woodlands healthy by leading teams to eliminate invasive plant species including buckthorn and garlic mustard.
Giving back to the community
Marge founded and led an all-volunteer nonprofit where the goal was to move people out of poverty through education. Over $100,000 in scholarships were awarded to academically advanced students with demonstrated financial need studying STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) at a Minnesota public college or university.
She also served on the board of directors of People Responding in Social Ministry (PRISM), where her focus was providing for the basic needs of our community including food support, transportation and clothing.
Marge is an active member and longtime volunteer of the St Joseph’s Catholic Community in New Hope.
Marge has an Accounting and Finance degree from Pace University. She has more than 20 years of experience leading large, global information technology (IT) projects and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
